INSPIRING STORIES OF REAL CLIENT SUCCESS.

PAUL PROTACIO

I usually don’t share too much personal things on social media, however this one I had to. My purpose for this post is to hopefully motivate people to get their health checked and actually do something about it.

I’m not a health nut by any means. I still have ice cream every other night with my kids, have snacks, don’t count my calories or marcros, eat out at least 2x a week, don’t like vegetables and eat all the delicious Filipino food, eat in moderation (as best as I can) and exercise. To sum it up, enjoying life.

I don’t go to the doctor much and the only reason I got a physical done back in 2017 because my wife and a good friend made me. I’m glad they did because my cholesterol was out of control and I was borderline diabetic. The doctor also wanted to put me on medication to control my cholesterol. However, I did not want to be on medication and asked the doctor what I need to do. He said exercise more, eat better and lose weight. At the time of my physical and blood test in 2017, I was 189lbs. However I did what I had to do and lost weight, got down to 178 and made healthier choices. I assumed I was good and never went back.

Fast forward to 2/13/20 and had a blood test done out of curiosity. When I got my numbers back, I knew they would be better but not this good.

During the blood test, I was actually heavier by 3 pounds from my last blood test in 2017. Below is what I’ve done differently the last 6 months.

Made healthier choices on food. Left my traditional gym and joined my wife’s cousins gym, King Strength and Performance. This is by no means an ad, but this new gym has altered my way of thinking of fitness. Ive never pushed myself so hard but at the same time, limit myself to not re-injure my back (three herniated discs and a bulged disc) and my chest (major pec tendon tear which required major surgery to fix). The coaches do a wonderful job making sure my form is right and know when to push me when I mentally don’t want to.

Anything can happen in life but need to do our best to stay healthy.

Find your WHY, and take care of your health. My WHY is to see my kids grow up and take care of my wife when she gets older lol.

As a fitness instructor, I always encourage people to keep moving, have fun and be confident in yourself no matter what you look like. Although I do my very best to listen to my own advice, I am still my very own worst critic.

I remember the day of that first picture. As the seamstress tried to squeeze me into my dress, one of the buttons broke off. I went home crying to EJ saying how much I wanted to cancel our wedding because of how ugly I felt.

I literally worked my ass off to fit into that dress. I was at the gym almost everyday doing multiple-session days @kingstrengthperformance and still teaching my Wednesday night Zumba @crunch.somerset.

In 6 months I dropped from 130lbs (size 8) to 115lbs (size 4). Being petite, it doesn’t sound like a huge transformation but it made a world of difference to me. I have never felt more beautiful or more confident than I did on my wedding day.

Thank you to @movewithpurpose.din for fixing my back from a prior back injury! Also to my trainer/boss-turned friend to family, @gerrick_king. Thank you so much for continuing to build me up as a trainer, teaching me consistency and honoring your promise of an amazing bridal transformation. As a fitness instructor, I always encourage people to keep moving, have fun and be confident in yourself no matter what you look like. Although I do my very best to listen to my own advice, I am still my very own worst critic.

J O Y – today marks one year since I stepped through the doors of my current gym and while race PR’s without injury are great & finally being able to do an unassisted pull up and conquer Spartan monkey bars felt phenomenal, I am most grateful for all the bursts of joy @kingstrengthperformance has brought me during mundane, ordinary weeks of training – whether it be from dancing through rest periods with whoever else is down, chuckling to myself about my new statement necklace 😂, or swapping funny/oopsies stories with training buddies…cause those moments have help me hit reset when life gets overwhelming. Happy to have this place and it’s people in my life 💛.
